Come celebrate international human rights month with the community of Orange Farm, a large informal settlement on the outskirts of Johannesburg.

The Itsoseng Women's Project a community based organization based in Orange Farm, started in 1997. Since then it has brought dignity to the lives of women and children, by providing opportunities of employment, education, nutrition and free legal aid. By creating employment and opportunity through recycling of waste, this project helps to contribute to greening the environment, and raise funds to reinvest in early childhood care, human rights, livelihoods, and support community projects.

This month the project has partnered with PikitUp to get more people to recycle their waste. By expanding the recycling to more people, the hope is to green the environment, create more jobs and contribute to global efforts to combat climate change.

Bricks Mokolo's community recycling has bought this trampoline for children in impoverished Orange Farm, south of Johannesburg.

Donations of all kinds are welcome:

  • Funds are needed for safety uniforms for those working on recycling project. They need overalls, gloves, masks, and boots. The cost is 450 rand per uniform.
  • Contributions of toys and clothes for the crèche and community members are welcome.
